Naval Base Point Loma is located a short distance from downtown San Diego, so if you prefer a busy urban lifestyle and don't mind city prices, this is definitely an apartment in the city. If you're looking for a home off base, the best recommended communities are Mission Hills, Del Cerro, City Heights, and of course Point Loma.
A very diverse and vibrant area, City Heights offers residents more affordable housing options as well as cultural influences. It is close to many social amenities, has good public transport and is the best place to get food that you can't find anywhere else in the city.
A little further to the east, you can see Del Saro. A bit more affordable than Mission Hills or Point Loma (the farther east, the better the house prices) and family friendly. Del Cerro is safe, has some of the best schools in the state, and is still close to base. The hilly neighborhood is also suitable for morning walks.
Mission Hills is a luxurious and prosperous neighborhood. Just north of downtown San Diego, it overlooks Old Town, making it a great place to put down roots. It's easy to get to and from Point Loma, downtown or anywhere else in the city from this central location. The area is safe and clean and close to shops and restaurants.
